Going into the championship game, Load3d had a record of 5-4 on the season and were going up against an undefeated squad, the Old Guys.  During the regular season the two teams matched up on 3 different occasions, with the Old Guys coming out on top each time, boasting an average point differential of 18.7 points.  Though betting lines are not apart of our league, it was fair to say Load3d was a big underdog.

Despite the odds being stacked against them, Load3d rallied as a team and pulled off the upset.  The standout performance came from SMBL mainstay, Macbeth Madziba who scored 21 points, 4 steals, and hit 4 big free throws that helped secure the victory.

Heading into the final game of the regular season, the Bricklayers held a record of 7-0, and were looking to become the first team in A-Division history to have an undefeated regular season.  They were matched up against the 2nd place team in the division, the Sooper Sonics.  With the Bricklayers having just 5 players, the Sooper Sonics took full advantage and handed them their first loss of the season.

In the first SMBL season, the Swish Collective put on a dominant display throughout the regular season, winning by a staggering average score of 31.3 points per game.  All signs were pointing to an undefeated campaign ending in a championship.  But in the final game of the regular season, they faced off against the Bricklayers, the second place team who had only lost to Swish Collective. 

With 5:50 seconds left in the game, the Bricklayers led 47-33.  The dreams of an undefeated season appeared to be shattered, until Swish Collective went on a 11-0 run through their suffocating defence. In the final 10 seconds, Swish Collective had a chance to tie the game and send it to overtime, 2 opportunities at 3pt attempts, the final one just missing as time expired.  The Bricklayers had beaten the unbeaten, and heading into the playoffs a finals meeting awaited them.

With both teams claiming dominant victories in the semi-finals, the finals matchup was set and it was time to crown the first A-Division champion.  Though their last game was competitive, the finals turned out to be a dominant victory from the Swish Collective, with standout performances from Michael Heptbourne and Sam Ivey.
